Mazarin Kite Masters embellished Colombo Galle Face Sky
Mazarin Kite Festival was an enthusiastic and memorable event organized by the ClubM Vice Presidents (VPs) for the months of Jan/Feb, held on 27th February 2014 at Galle Face grounds – Colombo.
The VPs were innovative to discover a fascinating idea of ‘Kite Festival’ that created a whole new level of experience to all of us Mazarins. It was not an easy task for organizers as well as the kite makers. Mazarins were divided into six teams and each team was asked to come up with a creative design and a strategic development plan. The challenge was to make the kite within 90 minutes in compliance with the VPs guide lines. All aspects of the festival were well planned and precautions were taken by the VPs to mitigate any unforeseen incidents. Being an outdoor event, the selection of the correct date and the time was crucial. The dates, times, venues and schedules were informed to the teams well in advance and a set of creative trophies were kept ready by the VPs to be awarded for the “Most Beautiful Kite” and “Mazarin Kite Masters”.
The six competitors planned fervently as every team had the determination to become the Mazarin Kite Masters of 2014. Special attention was given to the windy weather of the Galle Face grounds when designing and selecting materials. Every team put their best effort to make the best kite of the festival.
It was indeed a challenge for the kite designers to construct a creative, beautiful and well-presented kite within the limited time period, but a challenge everyone managed to complete nonetheless. Many fresh kite designers learned the art of making a kite on that day while making the event a fresh and different experience.
Team work and planning highly mattered to achieve this task within the stipulated time. After a half and hours time, each team presented a precious bird with a string attached to the neck. The next day, as hundreds of kite enthusiasts pitch themselves at the Galle Face grounds, Mazarins too joined them with these beautiful birds that were eager to fly across the horizon.
